Nordic Institute of Health Economics (NIHE) is a health economic research institute aiming to improve health systems by conducting in-depth research to support decision-making. NIHE offers high-quality health economic research and counseling within health economics and outcomes research, market access and real-world evidence. We are committed to meeting the needs of our clients without compromising our high academic and methodological standards. We collaborate with both public and private actors in the healthcare sector, including government agencies, payers and providers, clinical research groups at university hospitals, patient organizations and advocacy groups
Nordic Institute of Health Economics
NIHE is an Aarhus-based, independent research and consultancy company founded in 2022 by Professor Lars Holger Ehlers. NIHE works in Denmark and internationally with a broad range of clients and partners. Our experienced team ensures that all tasks are conducted systematically with a focus on transparency, credibility, dialogue, and high customer satisfaction.
NIHE is formally organized as a Public Limited Company / Ltd. registered as a Research Institute (Danish Industry Branch Code 72.20.00 and 70.22.00). NIHE is owned by Lars Holger Ehlers (majority shareholder) and Dam Advisors Aps. NIHE is authorized by Statistics Denmark and the Danish Health Data Agency Authority with a special permission to handle individual-level data for patients and citizens in Denmark.

About NIHE
Lars Holger Ehlers
Lars Holger Ehlers, Ph.D., MSc., Founder & Managing Director at NIHE, Professor of Health Economics. Ehlers has over 25 years of experience in research e.g. health economics, register-based studies, innovative treatments, chronic diseases and opportunities to improve organization of health services. Ehlers has more than 250 publications, and over 100 papers in international peer reviewed journals.
Camilla Rosgaard Birch
Camilla Rosgaard Birch, MSc., Manager & Health Economist at NIHE. Birch is a skilled health economist with expertise in health economic modelling, register analyses, and research methods. With a strong background in both human physiology and medical science, she combines medical knowledge with economic analysis to inform healthcare decision-making. As project leader, she oversees day-to-day operations and drives strategic direction for impactful research initiatives.
Renée Hangaard Olesen
Renée Hangaard Olesen, BScN, MHSc., Health Science Consultant at NIHE. Olesen is skilled in health sciences and health economic evaluations. With her background in nursing and a passion for improving healthcare, she combines her practical experience with academic expertise to contribute valuable insights at NIHE.
Thea Kirkegaard Kjær
Thea Kirkegaard Kjær, MSc., Health Economist at NIHE. Kjær a skilled health economic with experience in health economic modelling and market access. With a medical background and experience in the Danish healthcare sector, she effectively integrates clinical insights in health economic evaluations.
Morten Berg Jensen
Morten Berg Jensen, Ph.D., MSc., Senior Health Economist and Statistician at NIHE and Associate Professor at Aarhus University. Jensen is an expert in health economics and statistics, with over 50 peer reviewed publications covering on economics, applied research, and statistics. At NIHE, Jensen leads data management and analysis, leveraging his deep knowledge to drive insightful research outcomes.
Anders Hammerich Riis
Anders Hammerich Riis, Ph.D., Senior Epidemiologist at NIHE and Health Data Scientist at Enversion. Riis is a highly experienced epidemiologist with over 100 co-authored publications focusing on register data analyses and biostatistics. He has conducted numerous studies using the Danish register data at Statistics Denmark, Danish Health Data Authority and other data sources such as the CROSS-TRACKS study cohort and continues to apply his expertise to support the research efforts at NIHE, ensuring that our studies meet the highest standards of scientific rigor.
André Rodriguez
André Rodriguez, MSc. Student, Junior Researcher at NIHE. Rogriguez is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Medical Market Access at Aalborg University, where he also resides. During his studies, he has developed strong expertise in health economics, market access, and the structuring and financing of healthcare systems.
Katrine Stoklund Østermark
Katrine Stoklund Østermark, BScN, MHSc. Student, Junior Researcher at NIHE. Østermark is a skilled nurse with a background in acute care and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in health sciences at Aarhus University.
Nicoline Weinreich Reinstrup
Nicoline Weinreich Reinstrup, MHSc. Student, Junior Researcher at NIHE. Reinstrup holds a Bachelor in Public Health Sciences and is currently studying for her Master’s degree in Public Health at Aarhus University. Her work at NIHE is multifaceted, encompassing responsibilities such as conducting systematic literature searches, drafting reports, and providing support to the team.

Kurt Vind Christiansen, Accountant at NIHE. Christiansen is NIHE’s accountant, responsible for managing financial matters and handling invoicing.
